Hi,
Ashley Deniker is a ballet dancer with the heart of a drag racer. Or is that a drag racer with the heart of a dancer?
Ten-year-old Ashley isn't always sure.
“I love both, but I think, just because it's more interesting, drag racing just a tiny bit more,” she said.
A fifth-grader at Mountain View Elementary School in Unity, Ashley likes the fact that her unusual choice of hobbies keeps her teachers and classmates guessing.
“Some of my teachers are amazed. A lot of people don't understand it and they're like, ‘Oh, whatever.' Other people are like, ‘Wow, that's cool.' You get mixed reactions,” she said.
Now that the junior racing season at Keystone Raceway Park is coming to a close, Ashley is getting ready for her next round of dancing classes at Laurel Valley Academy of Dance.
The Unity girl has been dancing since she was 3, when her mom signed her up, and racing since she was 8.
“I guess I just wanted to give her the opportunity,” said her mother, Karen Deniker. “All little girls want to become ballerinas, come on.”
Thanks
